Sam Nord of Listen Technologies to Present at HLAA of San Francisco

Sam Nord of Listen Technologies will be delivering a presentation on legislative compliance and assistive listening technologies to the San Francisco chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) on November 9, 2013.

Salt Lake City, Utah, USA— Sam Nord of Listen Technologies will be visiting the San Francisco Chapter meeting of the Hearing Loss Association of America on November 9, 2013 to present on assistive listening technologies with an emphasis on Hearing Loop. Nord’s presentation will focus on the latest updates to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and how these updates apply to assistive listening systems, including Hearing Loops.

The presentation will also address trends in hearing aids, what venues need to know about accommodating people with hearing loss, why Hearing Loop is the preferred assistive listening technology and the growing Loop America movement.

Hearing Loops deliver direct and personalized sound to people with smart hearing aids (hearing aids equipped with telecoils) and people with cochlear implants by working with an individuals’ settings on their device.

“I am extremely honored and excited to have the opportunity to present to the San Francisco Chapter of the HLAA to discuss the latest technologies to improve hearing and communication, as well as to inform those in the hearing loss community of the latest updates to ADA law as it regards the requirements for assistive listening systems,” said Nord. In March of 2012, the changes that were made to the ADA related to assistive listening in 2010 went into full effect. These changes state that an assistive listening system must be provided in each assembly area where audible communication is integral to the use of the space. Hearing Loops are a type of assistive listening system.

Hearing Loops, which are quite common overseas, are just starting to gain more popularity in the US due to better installation standards. “It is always a pleasure to be able to discuss technologies like Hearing Loops, because they can drastically improve the quality of people’s lives,” noted Kenny Andrews, President SF Chapter HLAA. “We appreciate Sam’s willingness to meet with our group.” The presentation will be given on Saturday, November 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the San Francisco Chapter meeting at The Sequoias, 1400 Geary Boulevard, San Francisco, CA. The presentation is free and open to the public.
