Harbor Picture Company taps IHSE USA for KVM Matrix Switching in their latest build out
Posted on Wednesday, May 1, 2013

IHSE USA, LLC, a leading supplier of advanced high definition KVM solutions for video and data connectivity announced today that Harbor Picture Company (harborpicturecompany.com), located in Manhattan, New York has selected IHSE USA for their latest KVM Matrix Switching project. Harbor Picture Company is a full service facility for production and post-production of feature films, commercials, television and web content.  The KVM system was based on IHSE USA’s Draco Tera Compact edition of performance KVM switching solutions and designed around Compact 32C port switch providing four operators’ access to twelve dual head computers.

Taking the lead in system design and installation for the Harbor Picture Company project was DataCom West (dcwest.com), a national source for post production planning, product evaluations, acquisitions and installation of post production video and audio equipment. Key to the project design was Wendy Newton, Executive Partner of DataCom West and Avi Laniado of Ohmega AudioPost Services, Manhattan, New York.

“Harbor Picture Company requested a best of breed Digital KVM solution that would allow for flexibility, reliability, fast switching and rapid growth for their state of the art post production facility. We sell many different solutions, for many different applications, in this case it was clearly IHSE. It supports both CATx and/or Fiber options and would take them to a 4K platform when needed. We can also offer trade-in upgrades to protect resource investments.”, stated Newton.

“We were completely inspired by the pristine performance, reliability and minimal setup time needed for the Draco KVM solution”, stated Laniado. “The workflow requirements for Harbor Picture Company demand constant configuration changes and setup time eats into their billable production time. With the Compact 32C’s minimal setup, we knew there would be little to no loss in productivity time for the company.”

“Although this system is fairly complex, we were thrilled with how simply it was to configure and re-arrange ports on the fly”, stated Zak Tucker, President, Harbor Picture Company. “In our business, time is money and we fully expect this system to give us maximum return on investment while minimizing the learning curve for our staff of operators.”

The IHSE USA Draco Tera Compact KVM switch offers versatility and convenience from 16 to 48 totally flexible input and output combinations over copper connection. The system offer the fastest KVM switching available today with no blank screens or delay normally associated with resynchronization, giving full and immediate access to source computers from remote consoles.

Based on well-established Gigabit technology, Draco compact includes Flex-Port technology for automatic and dynamic allocation of input and output ports; including auto-reconnection and hot-swap capabilities. Ports can be combined to support single, dual, quad and eight-head computer configurations. Connection to source computers and consoles over Cat X cable and LC fiber is achieved through dedicated interface units, supporting various configurations of Single-Link DVI up to 1920 x 1200, USB-HID and USB 2.0 each capable of transmission over 140 meters away from the switch using copper connections and 10Kms with fiber.

Each Draco Tera Compact includes control options via RS-232 or Ethernet. Configuration and diagnostics can easily be managed through a JAVA™ application, or a third party control system such as AMX or Crestron. Built around the need for true 24/7 reliability, the Draco Tera Compact allows for quick hot swap cards and power supplies.

“IHSE USA recently introduced the Draco Tera Compact establishing new standards in digital KVM and video switching” added Chani Shah, COO of IHSE USA, LLC. “With it’s unique “mix and match” capabilities and flex-port technology, the Draco tera compact was a perfect match for Harbor Picture Company’s KVM requirements.”
