TAIPEI – Christie® is pleased to announce that Showtime Cinemas, the second largest movie theatre chain in Taiwan, has deployed its RGB pure laser cinema projection systems in all auditoriums at the new Gangshan Showtime Cinemas in Kaohsiung.
This is the largest multiplex opened by Showtime Cinemas in southern Taiwan to date, with 13 screens and a total capacity of 1,428 seats. Housed within an upmarket shopping mall known as Showtime Live Gangshan, it boasts a flagship Super Cinema auditorium featuring a giant screen measuring 20 meters wide and 11 meters high (65 feet by 36 feet), setting a new record for the largest screen in southern Taiwan.
The visuals are powered by a Christie CP4440-RGB advanced format cinema projector that outputs incredibly colorful and detailed, true-to-life 4K images, which redefines the premium movie-going experience for large format theatres. The other 12 auditoriums comprising screens of varying sizes have been equipped with the Christie CP2320-RGB and CP2315-RGB pure laser cinema projectors that excel in image quality, operational lifetime, and overall cost. All projectors were installed and commissioned by Christie's trusted partner, Dacoms Technology.
"As Taiwan emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic and life gradually returns to normal, people can once again go to the cinemas to enjoy the latest films. We want to welcome them back with the best ever movie-going experience," said Willy Liao, general manager, Showtime Cinemas. "Gangshan Showtime Cinemas is completely furnished with Christie's state-of-the-art RGB pure laser projectors and this clearly demonstrates our strong commitment to deliver spectacular cinematic visuals that will draw crowds from Gangshan District and neighboring areas."
Showtime Cinemas has been a longstanding user of Christie's cinema projection systems. Out of the 182 screens operating across Taiwan, 92 of them are lit by Christie cinema projectors, said Liao. He added: "They have served us well over the years and patrons are impressed with the picture quality of the Christie projectors installed throughout our entire circuit. Kudos to Dacoms for their support and providing our technical teams with the training and know-how to maintain the projection systems in optimal condition."
Han Kim, executive director for APAC, Cinema, Christie, commented, "I'm delighted that Showtime Cinemas has continued to place its trust in our leading-edge RGB pure laser cinema projectors by deploying them at the new Gangshan Showtime Cinemas. As Showtime Cinemas continues to expand its footprint in Kaohsiung, we look forward to strengthening our partnership and working together more closely as the exhibition industry in Taiwan recovers from the current challenging times."
