Canon Forest Program Also Extended To Include Company's imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 20, 2010 – Continuing its long-standing commitment to environmental sustainability, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, along with the Arbor Day Foundation, today announced this year's Canon Forest Program has planted more than 38,000 trees nationwide and more than 85,000 trees since the program's inception in 2008. Commencing earlier this year and spanning across several product lines, Canon agreed to plant a tree in our nation's forests1 for every five Canon Generation Green Products registered on the Canon U.S.A. website.

As a result of this successful program, Canon U.S.A. will also be extending its Canon Forest Program to include the imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series. Through this program extension, Canon U.S.A. will make a donation to the Arbor Day Foundation to plant one tree for every qualified Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series model sold through December 31, 2010. Introduced in 2009, the imageRUNNER ADVANCE Series incorporates an array of environmentally conscious features such as bio-based plastic components and lead-free parts, which help to dramatically reduce CO2 emissions over the entire product lifecycle.

"This year's program has exceeded expectations and we are excited to continue our relationship with the Arbor Day Foundation," said Bunji Yano, senior director and general manager, Corporate Communications, Canon U.S.A. "Canon has a long-standing history of environmental preservation and stewardship and the success of this year's initiative further underscores Canon's commitment to being part of the solution when it comes to protecting our natural resources."

The products that are part of Canon's Generation Green Program feature paper-saving technology and energy-saving measures, as well as minimal product packaging, all contributing to the overall sustainability of the environment. In addition to Generation Green, Canon U.S.A. protects future generations by helping to preserve nature's most valuable resources through the support of a wide range of environmental education and conservation initiatives, including the Canon Envirothon, one of North America's largest high school environmental education competitions; the PBS NATURE series; and scientific research and educational programs at Yellowstone National Park. Canon also established the industry's first and longest-running Toner Cartridge Return Program in 1990. To date, more than 150,000 tons of toner cartridges have been diverted from landfills.
